For better or for worse, those days are long gone, having been replaced by a slew of vendors that are too numerous to track. These vendors are in a variety of financial product offerings, including selling precious metals. One such example is American Gold Exchange Review.

American Gold Exchange Review sells a massive array of precious metal products and services, including a variety of precious metal IRAs. In this review, we check out their products, services, advantages, and disadvantages.

About American Gold Exchange Review

Unlike far too many other websites that are involved in this area, American Gold Exchange Review is very clear about who they are and their competitive advantages. According to their website, the company was founded in 1998.

About American Gold Exchange Review

Their website notes that they have developed extensive relationships with a variety of vendors and brokers in both the United States and Europe, allowing them to sell a slew of products.

Even better: The American Gold Exchange Review website specifically lists their President and Vice President, giving a brief biography about who they are and their expertise and experience in this industry.

This is important: Far too many websites fail to list this critical information. As such, individuals can trust that American Gold Exchange Review is clear and transparent about who they are and why they should be trusted.

Buying Precious Metals

A quick look at their website makes it clear that American Gold Exchange Review offers a wide array of services. Broadly speaking, you break down what they offer into three categories.

American Gold Exchange-buy precious metals

First, American Gold Exchange Review allows you to buy precious metals. To be clear, their categories of products are massive. The website lists a vast array of metals, which are broken down into the following categories:

  • Pre-1933 US Gold Coins
  • European & World Coins
  • Gold Bullion Coins
  • Silver Bullion Coins & Bars
  • Classic US Silver Coins
  • Platinum & Palladium Coins

The website then goes on to list other deals, ancient coins, or packs and sets that you can buy off of the website. These are some extremely rare, exclusive deals that we haven't seen in a lot of places, if anywhere else. The array of products you can buy is vast and sure to satisfy precious metal collectors or investors.

Selling Precious Metals

Interested in selling a precious metal? American Gold Exchange Review may have you covered. Their website has a separate page that lays out the three-step procedure on how they will give you a price on your precious metals. The website is extremely clear about how you can get a price and a potential offer:

  • A contact person is listed, and the information you lay out to her is described in great detail.
  • You'll get a potential approximate offer and decide on whether or not to proceed.
  • You'll be asked to send the coin to AGE offices so a final price and sale determination can be made.

Opening An IRA

Precious Metal IRAs have become extremely popular lately, and American Gold Exchange offers a service to allow you to create an IRA. Interestingly, AGE doesn't actually open the IRA themselves.

Instead, they list a series of potential custodians on their website and allow you, the customer, to decide which one of these custodians you can use.

The website does note that the custodians listed are the ones that AGE works with "regularly," leaving it open as to whether or not you can potentially invest with another custodian.

American Gold Exchange-Open IRA - Step-2

Once you have selected a custodian and opened an IRA, you can fund your IRA. From there, you can buy precious metals - from American Gold Exchange - for investment purposes.

The website is very clear that only certain kinds of metals can be purchased from the website for IRA purposes, ensuring that there is no confusion about what metals you can and cannot buy for investment purposes.

It also specifically lists the precious metals that you can't buy for IRA purposes, which helps to make clear that IRA investments are different than other types of precious metal purchasing.

Pricing, Fees, and Ordering Methods

Again, American Gold Exchange gets high marks for making it extremely clear how you can place an order and the different ways you can do so.

The website lists clear instructions on how you can place an order online and over the telephone. It also lists clear information on shipping, insurance provided, and how refunds are managed.

It gets even better: American Gold Exchange has a separate page that lays out their fees, late fees, terms, and conditions. This is an in-depth, legalize-like page that makes sure potential buyers are as clear as possible about what they are buying and how much it will cost them. It leaves no room for confusion and is highly transparent.

Resources

Any precious metal exchange website should have a vast array of resources that put potential buyers in a position to be more knowledgeable about the product they are looking to buy. Fortunately, American Gold Exchange has a vast array of resources that can help you be more comfortable before making any purchase. These resources include:

The Daily Gold Update is a regular update on the price movement and general trends of the gold industry. It is written by Bill Musgrave of American Gold Exchange. Keep in mind that this is a pretty large piece that is written every business day. The information is both extensive and impressive.

AGE Commentary, a more extensive video, and text look at the gold industry. This information is not updated as frequently, but it is still useful, interesting, and fact-based.

A vast array of charts cover multiple pieces of precious metals over multiple timelines. This includes live spot prices.

An impressive "about" section that lists how value is determined and what pieces of information others can use in making gold-related decisions.

A vast array of gold-investing podcasts.

Some of the information and resources in this section are provided directly by American Gold Exchange. Others are aggregated from different sources. However, it is clear that American Gold Exchange not only has a vast array of expertise but is willing to work with podcasters to give information on precious metals in general.

This demonstrates a commitment to ensuring that potential buyers and customers are kept informed - even if the information displayed doesn't come directly from American Gold Exchange.

Reviews

American Gold Exchange, like many other companies in this area, has an impressive array of reviews from third-party websites. A quick look at some of these reviews reveals very high scores:

  • Google Business: 4.8 out of 5 stars, 58 reviews.
  • Trustpilot: 4.9 out of 5 stars, 2,594 reviews.
  • Better Business Bureau: 4.5 out of 5 stars, accredited, A+ rating

Much of the content of these reviews has been discussed in this overview of the company: The services were comprehensive, transparent, and extremely helpful in providing resources and making sure that the customer felt cared for.

However, the reviews also had another consistent theme: The staff was genuinely liked at this organization. People felt as if customer service representatives were helpful and always had their best interests at heart.

They were excellent at responding to concerns and never pressured anyone. In short, the staff did a great job of making sure that customers' best interests were being taken care of.

Advantages & Disadvantages

  • Advantages

As you can probably figure out, this page has quite a few advantages. Its inventory is second to none, and it lists a vast array of potential products and services, more so than almost any other competitor in this space.

It also sells more types of products than any others and has a frequently updated section that lays out what its inventory is and what you can potentially buy off of the website.

American Gold Exchange also gets high marks for transparency. It lists information about the company, fees, shipping information, the qualifications of its staff, and more.

Ordering from the website is easy. Some less updated websites make it more complicated to place an order and require you to order over the phone. While that is an option on American Gold Exchange, you can also place an order directly from their website, providing customers with the kind of connivance that they have likely come to expect.

  • Disadvantages

The only real disadvantage we can find about the website is the website itself. The design is somewhat out of date and awkward, making it a little complicated to find what you are looking for. Part of this issue is reflective of the content of the website itself:

It is so vast that it can be more challenging to find what you are looking for. However, the website is optimized for mobile use, meaning you can just hop on your phone and easily find any information that you need.

Final Verdict

This is one of the most impressive websites in this area. American Gold Exchange offers a vast array of resources and information, is committed to multiple services, and is highly knowledgeable about its product.

They have information for all levels of buyers and are committed to being open and transparent. Frankly, at least in terms of its website, this is one o the more impressive sites we have ever seen.
