About BullionStar
BullionStar has one of the most robust "Get to Know Us" sections that we have ever seen. Indeed, it's not just one page, but several. This includes: An overview of the vast array of services that they offer, including information on who they are, where they are located, and how you can find out more information about them.
An investor relations webpage that lays out their finances and overall revenue. As you would imagine, this page lays out a particularly rosy picture of the financial health of the company. You have to take this information with a grain of salt, as there is no way to independently verify it, but it is impressive that the company lays out this level of detail and transparency.
An extensive history of the organization, with a timeline showing its important milestones that date back to 2009. An overview and picture of each staff member, complete with their qualifications and job responsibilities.
A list of BullionStar in the news, including times when their CEO has been quoted in major reports.
An overview of their board of directors. This is, without a doubt, an incredible amount of information, and it makes it easy to learn more about who the company is and why you should do business with them.
Services Offered
When you select a vendor to purchase gold from, you want to make sure that they offer a wide array of products and services. This means that you can use the company for many different reasons and have the chance to enjoy any economies of scale that they may offer. Fortunately, BullionStar has a wide array of products and services that make it easy for you to do business.
First, you can buy an impressive amount of gold, silver, and platinum - not palladium, a slight change from other websites in this area. The website has separate sections for each product, and you can view a solid amount of information on each item that is for sale. This makes it easy for you to learn more about their offerings and the specific products you want to buy.
Purchasing is as easy as clicking a few buttons. You can open an account and make purchases that way, or you can use the service for one-off purchases, just like any other online vendor. You can then use any method of payment.
Interestingly, you can also use cryptocurrency, and the website proudly advertises that you can use this method of payment to make purchases. It's fair that they would brag about this: This is one of the first precious metal websites we have seen that offers the option to purchase via crypto payments.
BullionStar also offers some unique programs that can provide interested parties with alternative purchasing arrangements. For example, they offer a Bullion Savings Program in gold, silver, or platinum.
This guaranteed product allows individuals to save up for bullion in incremental amounts, then convert those savings to a bullion purchase at any time. This is a relatively rare program that is not offered by many vendors.
BullionStar also allows an individual to sell their gold or silver. Their website has a page that lays out exactly how this can be done. It is worth noting that there does not appear to be a requirement that you buy the original bullion from BullionStar itself. The website lays out the process by which these sales can occur, giving you estimated prices and pointing you to the various steps you need to take to complete the sale.
Finally, BullionStar also offers private storage services. It allows you to purchase precious metals from their website, then ship these metals directly to their storage facilities in Texas. As you would imagine, these facilities are fully protected and insured. Prices are laid out, and you can also purchase one year of free storage from the site.
Interestingly, while storage options are listed in the United States, there are also options for New Zealand and Singapore. Safe deposit boxes in Singapore are also offered. Storage comes with a slew of options, including 24/7 management and online control and viewing.
There is also a very comprehensive shipping page that lays out a variety of information on their shipping offerings, including speed and cost. All shipping is completely insured, and you can track the order.
The services offered here are no different than those offered by any other high-tier precious metal website, but what is interesting is that Bullion Star very clearly lays out a ton of information on their shipping services - far more than what is normally offered.
Resources Offered
Just like the services offered page, Bullion Star has a vast array of resources - indeed, it is one of the more impressive resource sections that we have ever come across.
First, basic information is offered. This includes charts for many precious metal types, as well as more enhanced data on gold and silver prices. There is also a section on their website for Market Alerts. You can set a customized alert that will send you a notification if the price of the precious metal you are interested in hits a certain level.
You do have to have an account to take advantage of this feature. Even more impressive is the section on BullionStar's website that lists education research. Here's where the real meat of their education offerings lay.
First, Bullion Star offers videos that give information and insights from various staff members or outside experts that are trusted by the company. These videos tend to deal with a wide range of topics that are all related to precious metal purchases.
They include the macro economy and gold, the strength of the U.S. economy, how-to information on the website, and more. Unfortunately, the latest video was from December 2022 - nearly six months ago. The videos themselves are a fantastic feature, but it is not good luck when this section of the website has not been updated.
Next, BullionStar has a blog. Entries also deal with the latest in the precious metal news but with a BullionStar-centric bent. For example, the latest entry deals with the fact that Singapore is the largest buyer of gold of any central bank in the world. It is clear that BullionStar has a presence in Singapore, and they are using this blog entry to highlight that fact.
However, again, there are consistency issues with this blog entry. While the latest entry was written just a day ago as of this writing, the entry before that was published two months prior, the entry before that another week, and the entry before that another five weeks. Blogs are only effective and useful to readers if they are updated consistently. Otherwise, they appear to be an afterthought.
Things start to get more interesting - and more useful - as the resource section of the website progresses. The next section is on "Gold and Silver Investing 101," and this section smartly lays out a series of guides with basic how-to information. This includes alternative investment approaches, what various terms mean, and more.
It is extremely useful, particularly for those who want to invest in gold and silver but don't know how. The most impressive is the BullionStar Gold University, which is tens of thousands of words on a variety of gold-related topics.
This is far, far more information than the vast majority of gold investors will need, but individuals who are interested in making more in-depth precious metal decisions can review the information and make decisions about what they want to learn about. The options are plentiful and include topics like mechanics, gold marketplaces, gold vaults, and more.
There are also more generalized pieces of information, including broad overviews of the benefits of buying gold and silver. These are not just marketing documents but in-depth explainers about the economics behind both precious metals and how these metals may take place in your portfolio.
Finally, there's a QE Defender helicopter game.
This is, interestingly, the one area where the website gets a bit political: It shows federal reserve figures throwing money out of a helicopter, and your job is to collect that money as quickly as possible. It takes little shots at financing companies, too: Level 1 is called "Goldman Hoax." It's an interesting way of making a broader political point!
Advantages
BullionStar is one of the better precious metal websites that we have ever come across. It has a variety of information on both its internal operations and how the precious metal market works. This makes it easy to learn more about precious metals and what individuals can do to get involved in the market.
The website is also very impressive: It is sharp, easy to operate, and avoids some of the trappings of other precious metal websites - namely, that you need to buy precious metals to stave off the financial apocalypse. Most importantly: The website is easy to operate and ensures that buyers can easily make the purchases they need.
The resource section is, bar none, the best we have ever seen. It is clear that whoever put this information together knows what they are talking about and fully understands the benefits of having customers that are informed and ready to make purchases. The same can be said about the About Us page.
The services offered are also extremely robust. You can use the website to buy products and sell products, and the information offered on each page is extremely comprehensive: You are never unsure of how much you are paying and what you are paying for.
The same can be said for the other services that are offered, like selling gold, as you can tell exactly how much money you are getting. This leads to another positive about the website: They are very clear about their fees and how much various services will cost, so you are never unsure of what you are paying for.
Disadvantages
As you can likely tell from our overview, BullionStar is an extremely impressive website and business. The information presented is clear and transparent, and it is difficult to find fault with any of their services or products.
If any issues exist, it is simply due to a lack of some products and offerings. For example, the company does not offer an IRA. They also don't offer to purchase precious metal coins or any platinum. If you are interested in these services, you will have to find another website.
Other Reviews
As you would imagine, a company as large and robust as BullionStar has a slew of reviews from other customers. We've found that these reviews are often extremally insightful, as they can show the general sentiment of customers that have done business with an organization and help determine if a gut feeling about a business is correct. In this case, it certainly seems to be: The reviews were highly, highly complementary of the business here.
Reviews include:
As you would expect, the ratings of the site are glowing. Customers noted that the physical location is a fantastic place to buy gold. In both cases, individuals cited friendly staff, high-level customer service, and a highly professional environment that made it easy to buy precious metals.
In many cases, the reviews that we found referred to the physical location in Singapore - reviews of the website or Texas location were harder to find. However, the glowing reviews and total lack of any real problems made it clear that customers seem happy with BullionStar.
Final Verdict
This is a decent website. The transparency is top-notch, and the educational materials provided are ok. The website is easy to navigate and acceptable for customers. Individuals with or without experience in buying precious metals will be able to get whatever they need on the website and find the products or services that they are looking for.
While a few products and services are lacking - namely IRAs - these products can be purchased elsewhere, and there are so many available products you almost don't notice.
In other words, there is no question that BullionStar is a website where you can buy precious metals, but we do not recommend them. There are much better options available to precious metals investors.
