About Capital Bullion
Capital Bullion has a relatively extensive About Us page that helps people better understand who the company is and what advantages it may have over the competition. This page lays out their founding (they first opened in 2013) and positive customer reviews.
It also delves into something not enough precious metal businesses do: Security. It notes the various shipping options that customers have, as well as how their information and products will be protected. The only thing missing is more information on the individuals who work for Capital Bullion.
Services Provided
Capital Bullion has a very wide array of precious metals, including some highly unique offers. For starters, Capital Bullion has an extensive inventory of bullion and coins. They sell gold, silver, platinum, palladium, and even rhodium.
Items can easily be sorted on the website by an array of filters and product types, making it easy for users to find exactly what they are looking for.
Clicking on a product reveals a good amount of information, letting users know what exactly they may be purchasing. Furthermore, this format appears to be standardized across product types, making it easy for individuals to potentially make apples-to-apples comparisons.
Items can be ordered directly online, making it as easy as it could be for individuals to place and complete an order. This isn't always the case, and the process of placing an online order looks to be relatively seamless.
Capital Bullion will also buy precious metals off of users, provided you open a free account. Their "Sell to us" page lays out the process by which this can occur. You can easily get a quote on a piece of precious metal, regardless of whether or not you bought the precious metal from Capital Bullion.
Things start to get more interesting when you consider the unique services that Capital Bullion offers, which we don't normally see. For example, Capital Bullion has a separate page for "gift ideas." This is just a repackaging of their already existing services, but it is an interesting approach, particularly for users who don't normally purchase precious metals.
Perhaps most interesting is Capital Bullion's "Request For A Metal" section. By filling out a form, you can ask Capital Bullion to help you find a precious metal of a particular type. All you have to do is fill out some basic information about who you are and the metal in question, and Capital Bullion will attempt to locate this metal for you.
This is a highly unique feature - we've never actually seen it before. As such, it may be very useful for individuals who are interested in making a precious metal purchase and can't find the metal that they need.
However, for all of the services they provide, Capital Bullion is missing one particularly important precious metal service: A precious metal IRA. This is never offered on the website, and individuals who want to invest in precious metals to prepare for their retirement will have to look elsewhere.
Resources Offered
Unfortunately, for as good as the product selection page is, the resources offered by Capital Bullion are extremely lacking. As best we could tell, the only "resources" or educational materials that are listed on the website is a small widget that lays out the various spot prices of certain precious metals, including gold, silver, platinum, and palladium.
This is a very small widget and isn't even highlighted on the website, almost as if it was added as an afterthought. And that's it. There is no blog, how-to section, glossary, or information on what to look for when it comes to precious metal purchases. This is extremely disappointing and creates a powerful disincentive against buying from Capital Bullion.
The company seems to think that this information isn't necessary or that it can be found elsewhere, and customers should thus look in a different direction if they need information on how to buy precious metals.
Website Design
The website design is strange. In some respects, it is highly modern: Text smoothly slides into locations, it is fast to load, and mobile friendly. However, it's not quite as easy to navigate as other websites are: Frames are off-center and located at the top of the website only.
The text is spaced odd, and not all widgets load as easily as they should.
There is also an annoying pop-up ad - for the company itself - that appears if you use the site long enough. This ad is annoying and can damage the customer experience.
There is no celebrity endorsement or emphasis on buying gold to protect yourself from riots or climate change. There is certainly marketing messaging, but the business doesn't delve into conspiracy theories about the need to buy gold to prepare for the end times. Instead, Capital Bullion simply lists its products and concentrates on creating the best customer experience possible.
Fortunately for users, there is a very robust series of contacts that are available if individuals want to reach out to the company and learn more. Users can call, Email, fill out an online form, or even use WhatsApp. That last option is a new one - we've never seen a company offer WhatsApp as a method of communication before.
This synchronizes well with their payment methods, which include accepting multiple forms of cryptocurrency, including Bitcoin. It is clear that Capital Bullion is interested in gaining in other areas that more traditional precious metal vendors may not have explored.
Customer Reviews
These days, using customer reviews can make it much easier for prospective customers to determine if a website is legitimate or not. However, when it comes to Capital Bullion, we ran into a major challenge: We couldn't find any reviews. That's not to say that they are not out there, nor is it to say that the company is a scam. However, they don't make it easy to read customer testimonials.
However, this gets more problematic when one considers that they are listed as being Better Business Bureau accredited and with an A+ rating. We couldn't find the listing on the Better Business Bureau website. That's not to say that it doesn't exist, but we were not able to locate it.
Our Rating
Advantages
The advantages offered by Capital Bullion are significant. They have a vast inventory that can satisfy almost any potential precious metal inventory. This inventory is the biggest advantage that Capital Bullion has over its competition: It is massive, easy to search, and standardized.
It also offers numerous products that we have never found on another website and even has a "Request A Metal" function if a user finds themselves unable to find exactly what they are looking for.
Disadvantages
The advantages far outweigh the disadvantages of Capital Bullion - at least in terms of quantity. However, the disadvantages presented by this company are significant. They include:
Final Verdict
Capital Bullion has quite a bit going for it: Excellent reviews, a solid list of products that it sells, an easy online experience, and numerous ways to touch base with the company if you have any questions. It only has one negative, but it's a serious one: The lack of available resources or other educational materials.
So, where does this leave prospective buyers? If you know what you are doing or have alternative sources of information for how to buy precious metals, Capital Bullion may be perfect for you. However, if you don't know what you are doing - or you are interested in opening a retirement account - you may need to find a better vendor.
