About CB Mint
CB Mint advertises itself as a "premier online dealer of precious metals." Unfortunately, their "About Me" page is non-existent. You can't find any information on who they are or what their qualifications are.
Normally, this would be highly problematic. However, a further review of CB Mint's website quickly reveals that they are very transparent about who they are, what they sell, and what their business-specific policies are.
While the information on their qualifications and overall business philosophy is unfortunately lacking, they get high marks in many other areas when it comes to transparency.
Strangely enough, some of this information is listed on other pages. For example, the Better Business Bureau lists the business as having been open for nine years, meaning they've had time to establish themselves and their services.
We can't confirm the veracity of this information, but it is a little strange that CB Mint wouldn't list how long they have been in business or what their competitive advantage was. Most web pages we review do just that.
The pages on their website that can help individuals get more comfortable with CB Mint's services include:
All in all, there is more than enough information on this page to give anyone considering doing business with CB Mint a level of comfort. They clearly have a vast array of material that allows users to have a good idea o what they are getting into when they make their purchases.
Services Provided
There's good news for individuals who are interested in investing with CB Mint: There are a lot of potential options.
First, CB Mint has a large amount of gold, silver, platinum, rhodium, and palladium. The website is nicely organized, and hovering your mouse over each tab reveals more information about what is actually on the website and what types of precious metal you can buy.
Prices, methods of payment, and shipping methods are all listed on each product page. The products you can buy are widely diverse, too, including bars, bullion, coins, and more.
Interestingly, there is also a jewelry section. Men's jewelry is listed as "Coming soon," but there are a few pieces of jewelry that women can buy.
CB Mint does offer precious metals that can be purchased for your IRA. However, as the website makes clear, they don't exactly manage the IRA. Instead, they list what types of precious metals you can buy to fund your precious metal IRA.
You can then purchase these precious metals directly from the CB Mint and have those metals shipped to your IRA custodian. You can then regularly add funds to your account and direct CB Mint as to what metals to ship.
This appears to be a more intermediary approach: Some precious metal sites we have reviewed manage the IRA directly, while others won't touch it all at all. CB Mint seems to be positioning itself in the middle.
Finally, CB Mint also allows users to sell precious metals directly to their website. They specifically note that they usually offer the current spot price, and the website goes into great detail about the requirements that users have to meet to sell CB Mint precious metals.
This includes being a customer for at least a month, having made transactions with the company in the past, having products inspected independently, and selling name-brand products. The list is somewhat restrictive, but CB Mint lays out these restrictions very clearly.
In addition, CB Mint offers users a variety of ways to connect with them. Their "Contact Us" page lists an email address, phone address, and online form. It's clear that users who want to know more or who have more questions.
Resources Offered
For a page as large and robust as CB Mint, it's a bit surprising that they don't have more resources that can help users get more comfortable with their decisions.
They are missing some of the basics that are seen on many precious metal sites, like gold charts. They also don't have a blog or news aggregator. They do have an email newsletter signup option.
However, they do have some free resources that can help users become more educated. For example, they do have an Investor Guide, and this guide gives a wide array of information on how to buy gold. The information listed includes spot prices, manufacturing of precious metals, the various types of metals, and more.
However - and this is truly frustrating - the page is oddly formatted and loaded with ads from third parties. These include obnoxious pop-ups that interfere with a user's viewing experience. Surprisingly, the company chooses to use the guide on its webpage to make money rather than prove expertise and pull in users.
That is it for the resources offered on CB Mint's page. They do have social media, but like many other precious gold companies, that social media is extremely stale. The Facebook page hasn't been updated since 2017, the Instagram page since May 2022, and the YouTube page for two years.
Social media isn't a requirement for any precious metal website, but it is a bad look to have links prominently featured on social media only to then decide not to update the page.
Interestingly, CB Mint does offer something that we've never seen before: A state-specific page under a locations tab. Unfortunately, these pages suffer from the same formatting issues as the rest of the webpage.
However, clicking each page reveals a ton of information about a page, including its relationship with precious metals, dealers in each state, taxes, and more. It's highly customized and very impressive, even if these pages likely exist purely for SEO purposes.
Advantages
Perhaps the most noteworthy advantage of CB Mint is the sheer volume of precious metals they offer. This includes gold, silver, platinum, rhodium (which we have never seen!), and palladium. Each page has a large amount of information that can give users a wide degree of comfort in making a purchase.
You can also purchase items directly from the Internet, something that is often not possible at other sites we have seen. This means that CB Mint has the technology to process orders over the Internet, and that should enhance the accuracy of any order placed.
The website is solid. It's easy to navigate, mobile-friendly, and allows users to find what they want very quickly. It also appears to be extremely up-to-date.
The transparency offered on the page is impressive. CB Mint clearly takes this value seriously, and they offer a vast array of information for prospective customers, even if that information isn't the most convenient.
Disadvantages
The lack of resources on the webpage is somewhat strange, as is the odd formatting of the webpage. It's missing certain key pieces of information, and this can potentially keep buyers in the dark.
It's even more puzzling when you consider that most websites have much more in the way of resources and that the rest of the website is very solid.
CB Mint clearly has the technical expertise to manage a robust website, so their lack of additional information - combined with the weird formatting of certain pages - is strange.
Other Reviews
It is always preferable to find precious metal websites that have reviews from other customers. This allows users to make their purchases with additional comfort. Unfortunately, this isn't the case for CB Mint.
While they have been reviewed by other websites, we could barely find any additional reviews from third-party websites for the company.
The only review we could find was from the Better Business Bureau. While CB Mint wasn't accredited there, they did have an A+ rating. Only two reviews were listed, with 3 out of 5 stars - meaning one person gave five stars, and another gave one.
Final Verdict
CB Mint has a solid product base, a good website (mostly), and a commitment to customer service. While there are some problems with the website - namely the lack of resources in certain sections - this shouldn't stop you from giving them a look.
While the lack of customer reviews is somewhat strange, we do think that the offerings that the company gives customers make them worthy of additional examination.
As such, we can give CB Mint a positive recommendation. They take their customer's seriously, offer an array of services, and appear well-situated to meet your needs.
