About Gold Gate Capital

Though the site doesn't have a lot of information about its history, Gold Gate Capital opened in 2015 and now has multiple owners who have more than a decade of experience buying and selling gold.

Also known as GGC, it is accredited with the Better Business Bureau and ranked within the Inc Top 500. GGC helps clients invest in gold and silver, open IRAs, and sell any precious metals they no longer need.

Gold Gate Capital Pricing and Fees

A common issue that potential customers had with Gold Gate Capital is that the site doesn't show any prices. Clients can click on a product and find out more about it such as its history and gold weight. The product description does not show the price though.

Customers can only get prices when they call GGC and talk to an employee. The site is also fairly mum on the fees it charges. Some customers posted positive reviews though where they talked about the company reimbursing them for some of their fees.

Clients usually pay $50 to set up a new account with GGC. They pay $30 per transfer when they buy and move new items to the account.

There is also an annual $100 fee that covers both the storage of their assets and insurance on those items. Customers pay another $100 fee that pays their custodian to manage the account.

Available Products and Services

Buy Gold from GGC

Many of the top products from Gold Gate Capital are those that have a high amount of gold. Not only does gold have a high value, but it tends to keep its value. GGC gives customers the choice between gold coins and gold bars.

The gold coins available from the site include some popular options like the American Eagle. Also known as the American Gold Eagle, this coin features an eagle in flight on one side and Lady Liberty on the reverse.

The coin has a full ounce of gold and comes in individual lots. Individual coins come shipped in a plastic flap to keep them safe. GGC also allows customers to buy 500 coins that come shipped in Monster Boxes or 200 coins that come in a tube. GGC also offers other gold coins:

  • Austrian Gold Philharmonic
  • American Gold Buffalo
  • Gold South African Krugerrand
  • Gold Canadian Maple Leaf
  • Gold Rose Crown Shield

Gold Bars

Gold bars work well as part of an investment portfolio and are easy to store. GGC sends out every gold bar it sells with a certificate of authenticity. This certificate states the mint that made the coin and its overall weight in gold.

The site's one-ounce gold bars are .9999 gold and come with either a plastic or a paper cover. Clients can also choose one-gram gold bars and 10-ounce gold bars. The bars come from various mints in the United States and abroad.

Silver Coins

The silver coins investors buy from Gold Gate Capital include the Silver Rose Crown Shield. These coins come from The East India Company LTD and are .9999 silver.

Though they have a face value of $1.25, investors will find that they are worth more on the secondary market. GGC also sells Silver Round, Silver Austrian Philharmonic, Silver American Eagle, and Silver Canadian Maple Leaf coins.

Junk Silver Bags

Junk silver bags are one of the more unique products sold by GGC. The bags come in two sizes: one filled with coins worth $500 and one that has $1,000 worth of coins in terms of face value only.

Most of the coins are 10% copper and 90% silver. All of the coins date to 1964 or earlier and may include Kennedy 50-cent pieces, Washington quarters, Mercury dimes, and Roosevelt dimes.

Silver Bars

All of the silver bars investors can buy from GGC go through testing to ensure they have a high enough silver purity content to qualify for an IRA.

They are .9999 pure silver and may come from different mints or a company like Sunshine Minting. Gold Gate Capital offers both 10-ounce and 100-ounce silver bars.

Sell Gold and Silver

While customers will find lots of websites that sell gold and silver, it's not always easy to sell those same products. Not only does GGC buy gold and silver from others, but it does so for dozens of reasons that include:

  • Customers who need money to cover unexpected bills or repairs.
  • Those looking for ways to make some extra cash before they retire.
  • Investors who want to take advantage of market high prices.
  • People hoping to find an easy way to sell gold and silver online.
  • Customers who want to sell some gold or silver and make money for other investments.

GGC will not make an offer online, but it will make an offer over the phone. A client needs to call and explain what they have and what they want to sell. With total liquidation, they can sell all of their gold and silver to the site.

A partial liquidation allows them to pick and choose what they want to sell. Once they get an offer, they need to arrange for GGC to get the products. GGC will then ensure that the products match what the client described. The site will pay for the sale with a check and send it to the client's home.

Gold IRAs

With the information and resources offered by GGC, potential clients can easily learn about the benefits of opening an IRA and get help creating one. Also known as a self-directed IRA, it allows the investor to pick the precious metals they want to add to it.

In addition to gold or silver, the accounts can contain palladium and platinum, real estate, stocks, and bonds. GGC also offers support for those who want to open a rollover account and move some assets from another account to a gold IRA.

The Benefits of Investing in a Gold-Related IRA

The specialists who work for Gold Gate Capital are available over the phone. A client can call and talk to a specialist to get help choosing new silver and gold products. Once they have an IRA, they can have their custodian transfer their new assets to the account.

An account custodian handles both the buying and selling of assets and can also help with storage and taxes. The specialists can also help customers pick the storage facility they want to use. GGC often recommends Brink's, which has locations around the world, or the Delaware Depository which offers insurance of up to $1 billion per account.

Gold & Silver Info Kit

Gold Gate Capital knows that customers may not want to invest until they learn more, which is why it offers a free info kit. This kit goes over some of the reasons to set up a gold IRA and how they can open one online. The offer appears on the homepage of the site and also appears on a few other pages.

It asks for the client's phone number, email address, and full name. Though GGC sends out the kit for free and does not require that clients sign up, the site often sends a lot of emails and calls frequently to convince new clients to create an account.

2023 Investment Guide

Similar to the last offer, GGC also has a 2023 Investment Guide that comes in the form of an e-book. This book looks at why clients should have diverse portfolios, how to roll over an older account, the benefits of gold investments, and how they can save money when paying taxes on those investments.

GGC asks the client to share their phone number and email address along with their name and the best time to contact them. As with the last offer, some clients who received the investment guide received frequent correspondence from the company, even after they stated they were no longer interested.

Is Gold Gate Capital a Scam?

Gold Gate Capital gets fairly high reviews from clients like those who shared their experiences with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). The BBB lists 17 customers who gave the company 5-star ratings.

They mentioned the professionalism of the specialists working for GGC and the help they got when moving assets to a new account and buying new assets. A few of the reviews even mentioned some of the specific people who work for the company.

Though GGC also has a 5-star rating at Birdeye, this site also had a few lower ratings from clients. Some of the reviews on this site were Google reviews.

One client gave the company just four stars but left a glowing review. Other customers claimed that they had good experiences when they bought individual items from the site and signed up for IRAs through the company.

On the other hand, Scam Pulse has one report about Gold Gate Capital. This report states that the California Department of Labor Standards and Enforcement investigated a complaint filed by a former employee and found that the company owed back wages to an employee.

The employee who lodged the complaint warns customers about working with GGC and claims that the company can charge clients 25% more than what the products are worth.
