About Northern Nevada Coin
One of the things we always look for is how much information a company lists about who they are, their competitive advantages, and overall qualifications.
Northern Nevada Coin does a good job of laying out exactly who they are: A Nevada-based coin business that has operated for over two decades. Their page is also highly transparent: It links to information about shipping, privacy, returns, and more.
Furthermore, Northern Nevada Coin goes one step further and actually lists its staff, including names, pictures, positions, and a brief bit of biographical information. This includes how someone got into coins and what their financial education may be.
This page does a good job of humanizing the faces behind Northern Nevada Coin and ensuring that customers can actually "get to know" some of the staff on a real basis.
As part of their efforts to be as transparent as possible, Northern Nevada Coin also has a robust FAQ page. This lays out exactly who Northern Nevada Coin is, how you can get answers to your coin-related questions, and what coins may or may not be worth anything.
Much of the information on this page seems oriented around the idea of search engine optimization. Its sentences look keyword stuffed - names of towns are listed, and questions are phrased very obviously as part of an effort to enhance SEO. It's a bit sloppy looking and flows awkwardly.
Services Offered
As the name implies, Northern Nevada Coin wants to sell you coins. And, to be clear, they have a LOT of coins. We went through their website and counted dozens of different types of coins, including Carson City Coins, types of dollars, raw silver dollars, mint sets, and much, much more.
They also break coins out by new coins and into coin categories on their website. As best as we could tell, these pages are frequently updated, meaning that users should easily be able to get the information that they need about coins from the website.
Clicking on a specific coin reveals a solid amount of information about that coin. This includes the description, a picture, licensing information, a long history, and much more. You can then add coins to a cart by simply clicking a couple of buttons and making a purchase.
Furthermore, you can sort by coins by selecting a variety of filters, including categories, dates, mints, and more. Some of these acronyms may be completely unfamiliar to people who are not sure how the coin world works, but if you know what you are looking for, you will be able to navigate this advanced search tool with ease. Indeed, it is worth noting that this is a more advanced search tool than any we have seen.
The ability to create an account is important. You can store payment information, log in, and access printed catalogs. This makes it easier for repeat customers to come back and do business over and over again.
Finally, you can also submit a want list. This means that you can contact the company and use one of their online forms to describe exactly what you want. The company will then contact you and help you find the coins that you are looking for.
Resources Available
Unfortunately, this is an area where Northern Nevada Coin comes up well short. While they have quite a bit of information about the coins they have available and appear more than able to help you get more coins, they don't have much educational information. Instead, the info they have appears limited to a relatively small FAQ section.
Other than that, the company doesn't even have information on their social media sites. Instead, they use those to be explicitly self-promotional. This is, unfortunately, a lost opportunity.
Website Positioning & Messaging
The website isn't the greatest we've ever seen, but it certainly isn't the worst. A rotating carousel moves products in and out of the front page, and a title bar remains visible at all times, making it easy for users to navigate across the website.
Fortunately, the mobile website works well, and it is easy for individuals to use that website to find what they need. The greatest challenge we have with it is that it is simply disorganized. Some content is in some places, while similar content is located in a completely different section.
Fortunately, Northern Nevada Coin manages to avoid any hyperbolic language or celebrity endorsements on either the meat of its website or its social media. Instead, they concentrate on delivering a top-ranked product to individuals, ensuring that you can find the coins you want.
Northern Nevada Coin also has links to a variety of social media pages, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. However, the frequency of these updates is sporadic. For example, the Instagram page is still clearly used, with the most recent update occurring four days ago, and the Facebook page last updated an hour ago.
However, their Twitter page hasn't been updated since January 2020, and their YouTube channel hasn't been updated in more than seven years. There is also a blog, but it appears that the last entry was six months ago. There is no sense in lining up social media if you aren't going to use it at all.
Customer Reviews
As a general rule o thumb for a business, the more reviews and the more places you can find those reviews, the better. This is typically indicative of a healthy marketing effort and no shortage of satisfied customers. Fortunately for Northern Nevada Coin, it's pretty clear that they have had some excellent customer experiences. We were able to identify the following reviews:
These reviews show remarkable consistency across platforms to an extent that we don't usually see. Reviews tended to discuss the fact that users were able to find extremely rare coins on the website, then get those coins expeditiously.
People felt like the company was open, honest, and trustworthy. Workers were cited as polite and highly knowledgeable. In other words, customers thought very highly of the store and, generally speaking, were very likely to do business with them again.
Our Rating
Advantages
The biggest advantage of Northern Nevada Coins is the sheer scope of the inventory. It's the scope of coins and other related items is bigger than many others we have seen in similar stores that claim to specialize in this type of work.
This should make individuals much more likely to want to do business with the company, as it is clear that they do have a major competitive advantage over other individuals.
Furthermore, the customer reviews were remarkably consistent and complementary. Yes, there are some disgruntled customers - there always are. But, by and large, people were happy with the business that Northern Nevada Coin was able to offer.
Disadvantages
The fact that the company has no information available about how to purchase coins is a massive problem - and potentially a deal breaker. If you already know what kind of coins you want to get, you may not mind.
However, many coin collector beginners don't know what they are doing. If that's the case for you, you will have to find another website. The dated nature of social media is sloppy and problematic. It isn't a good look for a company in an industry that needs to pay attention to details.
Finally, as noted in the services section, Northern Nevada Coin basically only sells coins. There is no IRA and barely any bullion listed. If all you want to do is buy coins for investing or collecting purposes, you're in luck. Otherwise, you may find yourself disappointed by the relatively narrow scope of Northern Nevada Coin's offerings.
Final Verdict
Northern Nevada Coin offers many advantages: A HUGE selection of coins and honest work. The descriptions of the coins are honest and robust, and customers repeatedly cited that the business was able to deliver more than what they promised in their shipping information.
That being said, the business is also lacking in some very significant areas, including resources provided to customers. They try to come off as a major business conglomerate, but it is pretty clear that the dated nature of some information - and the total lack of educational resources - is a sign that they have a lot of work to do to be able to compete with larger entities.
So, what is the final verdict? From what we can tell, if you know what you are doing when it comes to coins, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better business than Northern Nevada Coins. If you are looking for another business - or you are looking to do more than just coin collection - you should probably look elsewhere.
